Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player concerns following the game's full launch. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates focusing on community feedback gathered during the advanced access period. Steam user reviews during this period were mixed, with common criticisms targeting the user interface, limited map variety, and perceived missing core features.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, acknowledged the negative press and player reviews but expressed confidence in the game's long-term success, suggesting that the "legacy Civ audience" would appreciate the game more with extended playtime. He characterized the early performance as "very encouraging."

This initial patch tackles several key issues:

Gameplay:

  • Resolved an issue causing shortened ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-states now transition to Friendly Independent Powers during Age transitions instead of vanishing. They also begin with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.
  • Improved naval combat consistency, addressing issues with combat strength values, reciprocal damage, and post-battle tile movement.
  • Prevents legacy path completion from adding unintended Age Progress in the Modern Age.
  • Towns automatically resume growth focus if conditions for their chosen focus are no longer met.
  • The "Future Civic" is now repeatable across all ages, with increased costs for repeated selections.
  • Fixed a growth bonus issue that resulted in negative food requirements.
  • Enhanced rail network reliability for settlements connected via water by building ports.
  • Improved loyalty crisis management in the Antiquity Age, including the ability to purchase Villas.

AI:

  • Reduced AI frequency of offering high-value cities in peace deals.
  • Decreased AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
  • AI now considers ideology more heavily before declaring war or offering peace.
  • Adjusted AI war and peace desires based on ideological alignment with the player.

Camera:

  • Fixed a native-resolution camera focusing issue on the minimap.

UI:

  • Temporarily replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font.
  • Resolved issues with opening the Settlement menu, populating yield icons on converted towns, and text truncation on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
  • Added notifications for completed espionage actions.
  • Removed the ability to purchase City projects prematurely.
  • Prioritizes the display of the player's current religion in belief picker tabs.
  • Fixed persistent health bars on fully healed districts and missing leader portraits after relationship changes.
  • Improved alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary screen.
  • Corrected a background color issue in the Player Customize tab.
  • Improved spacing of Civ descriptions, unique units, and building icons on the loading screen.

Cross-play Multiplayer: Cross-play between PC and console players is temporarily disabled to expedite PC patch deployment. This will not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer. Future patches may be released at different times for PC and consoles.
