Sony has recently unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, stirring excitement with a teaser for its debut game. In a detailed post on the PlayStation Blog, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, revealed that teamLFG was born out of Bungie, the creators behind Destiny and Marathon. The studio is currently focused on an ambitious incubation project that Hulst is eager to share with the gaming community.
The name teamLFG, which stands for 'Looking For Group,' hints at the studio's commitment to fostering social gaming experiences. Their first project is described as a team-based action game that uniquely blends elements from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and even "frog-type games." Set in a whimsical, comedic world within a newly crafted, mythic, science-fantasy universe, this game promises to be a fresh take on multiplayer gaming.
teamLFG's mission is clear: to create games that not only entertain but also nurture friendship, community, and a sense of belonging among players. They aim to craft experiences where players eagerly log on to find their friends already online, where familiar names become legends, and epic plays turn into memorable stories and memes. As they put it, "dat’s da good stuff."
The studio is dedicated to building immersive multiplayer worlds that players can engage with, learn, and master over countless hours. A key aspect of their approach is involving the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring that player feedback shapes the game from the lead-up to launch and throughout its live service phase.

teamLFG's game emerged as an incubation project from Bungie, amidst significant layoffs last year. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie faced challenges in meeting financial targets with Destiny 2, which led to layoffs affecting approximately 100 employees in November 2023. A subsequent round of layoffs in 2024 impacted another 220 staff members, with 17% of the studio's workforce affected, and 155 individuals being integrated into other parts of Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was during this period that the incubation project's spin-off was announced.
Late last year, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's involvement in pushing for improvements to Destiny 2, suggesting a positive influence from the parent company. Since then, Bungie has moved forward with the full reveal of the extraction shooter Marathon and confirmed the roadmap for Destiny 2's future. However, there are no plans for Destiny 3, and a Destiny spinoff project called Payback has been canceled.
