Sailing Skill Nears Launch in Old School RuneScape

Following years of speculation, a sea of memes, and endless fan requests, Jagex is about to introduce the one feature players have clamored for in Old School RuneScape. More than just a feature, the game is welcoming the long-anticipated Sailing skill next month.

What is the official release date for the Sailing skill?

The Sailing skill officially launches in Old School RuneScape on November 19, 2025. This follows a decisive community poll over two years ago where Sailing triumphed over contenders Taming and Shamanism, securing its place as the game's first new skill in a decade.

Jagex has since developed the skill through continuous updates, player feedback, and extensive alpha and beta testing earlier this year, giving adventurers a hands-on preview of captaining their own ships.

Hunter was the last skill added to Old School RuneScape, landing in November 2006. This means players have waited nearly 19 years for a fresh skill to master.

Sailing functions as a substantial expansion, which explains its extensive testing and iteration. It expands the playable world by 190%, finally unveiling the vast, unmapped oceans of Gielinor.

Upon release, players can navigate to uncharted territories, plunder sunken wrecks for treasure, and meet new characters with fresh storylines. You'll construct and customize vessels to explore waters that were once mere blue pixels on the map's edge.
