As Elden Ring: Nightreign approaches its release, FromSoftware offered a first look at one of its bosses, whose appearance surprisingly recalls a beloved cartoon character. On May 6, IGN released new gameplay footage showcasing "Libra, Creature of Night," one of the eight Nightlords.

True to FromSoftware's style, Libra appears to uphold the series' challenging legacy with fast, punishing attacks. Beyond its combat abilities, however, players quickly noticed something unusual about the design of this fearsome goat-like Nightlord.

YouTube commenters pointed out Libra's uncanny similarity to Grey Matter, one of the alien forms from the popular animated series Ben 10. The comparison mostly stems from Libra's apparent large eyes, which are actually bells dangling from its horns.

This resemblance was also a topic on Reddit when the game's reveal trailer dropped in December 2024, featuring a brief glimpse of Libra. While the comparison is amusing, Libra looks fully capable of overwhelming players once the game launches.

The gameplay reveals Libra as a boss that inflicts Madness, a status effect that drains health and focus points while stunning the player. Coordination is essential, as the Creature of the Night unleashes wide area-of-effect attacks and unpredictable patterns.

Before the fight begins, players can bargain with the Scale-bearing Merchant, who offers enhanced strength, resistance to ailments, or protection from death. Alternatively, players can refuse any deal and confront the boss directly. The video does not reveal whether these deals come with hidden costs. Whether a deal is made or not, the merchant is later revealed to be Libra itself, who sheds its disguise to reveal its true form.

As the battle continues, Libra grows more dangerous, employing an expanding array of moves. It initially casts projectile spells and summons area-of-effect sigils. After taking sufficient damage, it enters a enraged state, delivering powerful melee strikes. Its madness-inflicting spells also become more potent, and its area attacks grow even wider.

With under a month until launch, FromSoftware continues to unveil more details, suggesting that their new multiplayer approach to Souls-style gameplay will be a fresh experience. The recent overview trailer highlighted Nightreign's lore, features, and gameplay mechanics.
