Lies of P DLC to Adjust Difficulty, Says Director

Lies of P developer Neowiz unveiled DLC Overture during Summer Game Fest, introducing fresh locations, enemy types, bosses, characters, weapons, and the polarizing addition of two easier difficulty settings. Now those accessibility options are receiving further adjustments as the studio initiates "difficulty reduction" measures.

As a core "Soulslike" experience, Lies of P delivers punishing challenges—particularly for newcomers attracted by its gothic narrative. Director Jiwon Choi initially maintained Soulslikes shouldn't include difficulty options, shipping the base game without them before reconsidering: "We aimed to broaden the game's accessibility for diverse players."

PlayHowever, players tackling Overture's "intended" Legendary Stalker difficulty report unprecedented challenges. Community discourse became so intense—both defending and criticizing the DLC's steep difficulty—that moderators consolidated discussions into a megathread to manage feedback volume.

Steam reviews reflect this tension, with one player commenting: "At level 300, basic enemies shouldn't eliminate me in two hits—especially when forced to engage groups simultaneously. This wouldn't feel punishing if individual foes didn't remove half my health per attack."

A newly published Lies of P Director's Letter confirms impending balance adjustments. "We're thoroughly evaluating all feedback and prioritizing implementation timelines," Choi stated (via Eurogamer). "Combat experience remains our primary focus."

"We've identified design elements that diverged from our vision and are examining comprehensive adjustments—including difficulty reduction. As combat defines Lies of P's core identity, these modifications demand rigorous testing." This deliberate approach explains Neowiz's reluctance to commit to specific patch timelines.

Our review (8/10) praised both the base game and Overture (also 8/10): "While adhering to genre conventions, Lies of P: Overture meaningfully expands an already exceptional foundation with substantial new content."
