Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9 Physical Editions for Switch Are Up for Preorder

The latest PS1-era Final Fantasy games are receiving physical releases for Nintendo Switch on December 9. Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VIII Remastered will be bundled together in a twin-pack box, while Final Fantasy IX will have its own standalone box. Each title includes modern enhancements not present in their original releases. All are priced at $39.99 and are now available for preorder at multiple retailers.

These games are already available digitally on Switch and other platforms, but this marks their first physical release in the US.

Final Fantasy VII, originally released in 1997, was the series’ debut on a non-Nintendo console. It follows Cloud Strife, a former SOLDIER, as he joins a band of rebels to overthrow the tyrannical Shinra Corporation. This remastered version adds 3x speed mode, optional random encounters, and battle enhancement mode.

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered is an upgraded version of the 1999 PS1 classic. It centers on Squall and the SeeD cadets as they confront the sorceress Edea, whose actions plunge the world into chaos. This edition introduces battle assist features, 3x speed, and the option to disable random encounters.

When it launched in 2000, Final Fantasy IX paid homage to the medieval tone of the first six games. It follows Zidane and a troupe of performers who “rescue” Princess Garnet—though she secretly arranged her own kidnapping to escape her unstable mother, the queen.

The visuals have been subtly refined for modern screens, with added features like auto-save and seven game boosters, including high-speed and no-encounter modes.
