REPO's development team reveals plans to revamp difficulty progression by introducing new mechanics at every 10-level interval. Learn about the upcoming Overcharge adjustments and developer insights from the ongoing open beta phase.
REPO Development Updates
Overcharge System Revamp
Following REPO's open beta launch, Semiwork developers carefully evaluated player feedback, particularly regarding the Overcharge combat mechanic.
The Overcharge system enables players to counter enemies by lifting and throwing them against obstacles or away from allies. However, this powerful ability carries risk - when the Overcharge meter fills completely, players experience explosive consequences.
Originally available immediately, Overcharge will now unlock at level 10 as part of a broader difficulty progression system. Semiwork plans to implement additional challenge mechanics every 10 levels (20, 30, etc.), with Overcharge serving as the introductory mechanic.
The developers emphasized these mechanics will integrate meaningfully with the game's narrative: "This progression system connects directly with REPO's lore - it's not just arbitrary difficulty spikes. We'll share more details about these connections in future updates."
Developers Participate in Open Beta Testing
Semiwork developers actively participated in REPO's open beta, joining random matches anonymously to gather direct player feedback. Developer Pontus Sundström shared positive experiences observing players engage with new features.
"I've been playing alongside many of you - quietly joining through standard matchmaking," Sundström revealed. "This allowed me to ask questions and understand what aspects players enjoy most."
Semiwork intends to continue refining REPO based on community input from the beta. Players can anticipate additional updates as development progresses, with more announcements promised soon. For ongoing coverage of R.E.P.O.'s development, explore our related articles below!
