A Resounding Success Across Platforms

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2) has enjoyed a spectacular launch, achieving both significant sales figures and overwhelmingly positive critical reception across all platforms. Warhorse Studios proudly announced on Twitter (X) that the game surpassed one million copies sold within 24 hours of its February 4, 2025 release – a remarkable feat exceeding the nine-day milestone achieved by its predecessor.

SteamDB data reveals a concurrent player count peaking at 176,285 within a six-hour period, significantly outperforming KCD1's all-time high of 96,069 players. Furthermore, KCD2 secured a prominent position, ranking 12th among all PlayStation games on the U.S. PS Store homepage at the time of this writing.

OpenCritic awarded KCD2 a "Mighty" rating, boasting an impressive 89 score and a 97% critic recommendation rate.

Addressing Critical Feedback and Online Backlash

Despite the largely positive response, KCD2 hasn't been without its detractors. Creative Director Daniel Vávra publicly addressed some negative reviews and lower-than-average scores from certain outlets on Twitter (X). These reviews often criticized the game's perceived difficulty or described the gameplay as tedious. Vávra responded to these criticisms, highlighting what he viewed as inconsistencies in journalistic standards.

Furthermore, Vávra actively countered online attacks targeting the game's inclusion of same-sex romance options. He called out several Metacritic user reviews that labeled KCD2 as "historically inaccurate" and politically motivated, urging fans to review the game and report any bot-generated negative comments.

He reiterated that the LGBTQ+ content is entirely optional and depends solely on player choices within the game's expansive open-world medieval setting. Players retain considerable freedom in how they experience this RPG.
