Embracer has celebrated the remarkable success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which is nearing the impressive milestone of 2 million copies sold. The game achieved a phenomenal feat by selling 1 million copies within just one day of its launch, and it has nearly doubled that figure a mere 10 days later.
This represents a significant triumph for developer Warhorse Studios, whose medieval Europe action role-playing game sequel was released on February 4 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Embracer highlighted that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 performed exceptionally well on Steam, reaching over 250,000 peak concurrent players. For comparison, the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance peaked at 96,069 concurrent players on Steam seven years ago.
It's important to note that the actual peak concurrent player count for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is likely higher, considering its availability on consoles as well. However, Sony and Microsoft do not disclose player numbers publicly.
Embracer, which owns Warhorse Studios through its subsidiary Plaion, praised the game's initial success, noting its positive reception from both players and critics, as well as its strong performance. Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors stated, "This reflects the dedication and hard work of our development studio, Warhorse Studios, and our publisher, Deep Silver."
Wingefors expressed confidence in the game's future, saying, "It is our strong belief that the game will continue to generate substantial revenues over the coming years, highlighting the exceptional quality, immersion, and appeal of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Warhorse Studios has a robust roadmap, including updates and new content over the next 12 months, ensuring an engaging and continuously evolving experience for the community."
He added, "We are immensely proud of the teams involved in the successful release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which has significantly outperformed our expectations so far."
In addition to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Embracer is gearing up for the release of Killing Floor 3 later this quarter (January to March 2025). The company boasts over 5,000 game developers working on its upcoming titles, with 10 triple-A games slated for release over the next three financial years (FY 2025/26, FY 2026/27, and FY 2027/28). Eight of these games are being developed by internal studios, while two are from external studios.
In FY 2025/26, Embracer plans to release two triple-A games towards the end of the financial year. The lineup also includes mid-size releases such as Gothic 1 Remake, REANIMAL, Fellowship, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, Titan Quest II, Screamer, Echoes of the End (working title), Tides of Tomorrow, Satisfactory (console), and the full release of Wreckfest 2, along with several other mid-sized games yet to be announced.
Despite facing challenges in recent years, including layoffs and the sale of several studios such as Gearbox and Saber Interactive, Embracer continues to own Metro developer 4A Games, which is currently developing a new game in the series.
