Capcom Launches First-Ever Game Development Competition for Japanese Students
Capcom is fostering collaboration between industry and academia with its inaugural Capcom Games Competition, a game development tournament designed to revitalize the Japanese video game industry. This initiative aims to cultivate future talent and advance research in game development.
A Collaborative Approach to Game Development
The competition, open to Japanese university, graduate, and vocational school students (18 years or older), challenges teams of up to 20 students to create a game using Capcom's proprietary RE ENGINE within six months. Capcom developers will provide mentorship and guidance, ensuring participants gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge development techniques. Winning teams will receive support for potential commercialization of their projects.
The RE ENGINE: Powering Innovation
Developed in 2014, Capcom's RE ENGINE (Reach for the Moon Engine) debuted with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and has since powered numerous successful titles, including other Resident Evil installments, Dragon's Dogma 2, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. Its ongoing evolution ensures high-quality game development.
Competition Details:
- Application Period: December 9, 2024 – January 17, 2025 (unless otherwise stated)
- Eligibility: Japanese students (18+) enrolled in universities, graduate schools, or vocational schools.
This competition represents a significant investment in the future of game development, providing invaluable experience and potential launchpads for promising young talent.
