After a 25-year hiatus, Capcom's beloved role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has been resurrected on PC. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and a year later in Europe, the game made its way to PC in Europe and Japan in 2003. The story centers around Ryu, a protagonist distinct from Capcom's other famous Ryu, who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a group of warriors, Ryu embarks on a quest to thwart an emperor's plans to annihilate the world.
GOG, as part of its ongoing Preservation Program, has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV for contemporary PCs. The game is now available DRM-free on their platform, ensuring a seamless gaming experience. The enhanced version is optimized for modern systems, supporting both Windows 10 and 11. It includes both English and Japanese localizations, and features improved graphics thanks to an upgraded DirectX renderer. Players can enjoy new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for enhanced visuals. The audio engine has also seen significant upgrades, with the restoration of missing environmental sounds and the addition of new configuration options.
