Pet the Bell Beast in Silksong

Hollow Knight: Silksong is available now, and based on our ongoing review, it appears to be an excellent experience. However, it commits one glaring, unforgivable oversight: the game does not allow players to pet the Bell Beast, the lovable bug companion that acts like a dog.

Warning: Mild spoilers for the initial hours of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The following details are encountered very early in the game, within the first two areas you explore.

In case you're unsure which "dog" this refers to, it's the Bell Beast—one of Silksong's earliest bosses, which later becomes your permanent fast-travel companion. You first find the Bell Beast trapped in large silk webs in The Marrow. After acquiring the Silk Spear to free it, you must engage in a battle. Once defeated, the Bell Beast becomes a gentle ally. You can summon it at any fast-travel station to ride to other stations across Pharloom. This utility is invaluable, but the creature's best trait is its utterly endearing, puppy-like behavior. It digs playfully through the bells at its feet, excitedly reacts when you ring the bells above its head, and radiates joyful, energetic charm.

Yet Hornet cannot pet it. This omission has deeply disappointed fans, who strongly believe a petting interaction should be included. Below is a series of community posts echoing this sentiment—spoiler-tagged per the subreddit's current rules, but all featuring adorable images of the Bell Beast.
