In the world of television, it's a well-known fact that no beloved show stays dead forever. This year alone has seen the revival of projects from diverse universes like The Office and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and now, the cherished 2000s hospital sitcom, Scrubs, is set to make a comeback. It's been 24 years since Zach Braff first donned the scrubs as junior doctor JD at Sacred Heart Hospital. Now, Braff is set to reprise his iconic role in ABC's upcoming Scrubs reboot, which promises a blend of familiar faces and fresh talent.
If this revival concept rings a bell, it's because ABC previously attempted a similar approach during Scrubs' ninth season. That season introduced a new, younger cast while featuring Braff and other series regulars in a handover. However, the move didn't resonate with audiences, leading to its cancellation after just nine episodes.

Almost two decades later, ABC is giving it another shot. The mastermind behind the original series, Bill Lawrence, is spearheading this revival, envisioning it as a hybrid of a reboot and a revival. With Braff's deal now inked, Entertainment Weekly suggests that other original cast members may soon follow suit.
"We've been talking about a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo," Lawrence shared with Deadline. "A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people that go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it's a calling."
Originally, Scrubs aired 182 episodes between 2001 and 2010. While there's no confirmed date yet for when filming of the new episodes will begin, fans are eagerly anticipating the return of this beloved series.
