Nintendo's Surprise: An Interactive Alarm Clock and a Mysterious Switch Online Playtest
Forget your 2024 predictions – Nintendo just dropped a new interactive alarm clock! The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, priced at $99, isn't your average wake-up call. It uses game sounds to coax you out of bed, featuring iconic audio from franchises like Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon, with more free updates promised.
Alarmo: Game-ified Wake-Up Calls
The Alarmo's unique selling point? It only stops ringing once you're out of bed. Nintendo cleverly frames this as a "brief victory fanfare," acknowledging the daily struggle. You can try waving your hand to quieten it, but prolonged slumber will only increase the alarm's intensity. The clock uses a radio wave sensor to detect movement, prioritizing privacy over camera-based solutions. It works even in dark rooms and through obstacles, as explained by developer Tetsuya Akama.
Early Access and Availability
Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada get early access via the My Nintendo Store for a limited time. The Nintendo New York store also offers in-person purchases at launch.
