Lilo & Stitch Remake: How to Watch Live-Action Version

The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch has hit theaters, and I find myself torn about whether to see it. Our review rated it an impressive 8 out of 10, yet I'm hesitant to risk tarnishing my affection for the original animated classic. If you're considering watching this Disney live-action in theaters, you have several options. It's currently showing in both standard and IMAX formats this weekend.

For those planning to wait for the digital release, be prepared for a longer wait. In the meantime, you can revisit the original animated film on Disney+, which is exactly what I intend to do.

When Can You Watch It at Home?

If you're not planning to see the movie in theaters, you'll need to wait a bit longer for the home release. Typically, Disney live-action remakes become available on digital platforms between 45 and 65 days after their theatrical debut. The recent Snow White remake, for instance, was available digitally less than two months after its theatrical release. Depending on its box office performance, Lilo & Stitch could be available for digital purchase in July or August. Disney's confidence in the film suggests they're even considering sequels.

For Disney+ subscribers, the wait will be longer. New Disney movies usually arrive on the streaming service around 100 days after their theatrical release, though this can vary. Based on past summer releases, Lilo & Stitch might be available on Disney+ by late August or early September.

Where to Watch the Original Movie

The original Lilo & Stitch movie is still available in its 2D-animated form on Disney+. If you don't have a Disney+ subscription, you can rent or buy a digital copy on Prime Video at a reasonable price.

For those interested in a more permanent solution, a new 4K edition of the original movie was released earlier this year and has been well-received. It's a great addition to any Disney collection.
