In the latest installment of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, shared exciting news about the future of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. This enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 release, which kicked off the remake trilogy and significantly expanded on the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG, Final Fantasy VII, is set to launch on the upcoming Switch 2.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, which boasts upgraded graphics and lighting over the original PS4 version, as well as the Intermission DLC featuring the adventurous ninja Yuffie's journey in Midgar, is already available on PS5 and PC. Hamaguchi expressed confidence that the Switch 2's enhanced capabilities will allow the game to be fully realized on Nintendo's new handheld platform. "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," he stated.

PlayHamaguchi highlighted the convenience of playing the game in handheld mode on the Switch 2, noting that it will allow players to enjoy Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade during commutes or other on-the-go situations. "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work," he added. This portability, he believes, will also facilitate easier sharing and discussion of gameplay among players.

The Switch 2 version will also feature GameChat, enabling players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real-time during gameplay. "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," Hamaguchi enthused, expressing optimism about fostering a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 thus far, Hamaguchi hinted at the possibility of future releases in the trilogy, including Rebirth and the final entry, on this platform. "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2," he concluded.

It's worth noting that the Final Fantasy series began on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997, marking its debut in 3D. With this remake, fans will finally see Final Fantasy VII on Nintendo hardware once again.
