The eagerly anticipated reboot of the Narnia series, helmed by the acclaimed writer and director of the Barbie movie, Greta Gerwig, has added the talented Carey Mulligan to its stellar cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mulligan will join forces with former James Bond star Daniel Craig, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, and the legendary Meryl Streep in this exciting new adaptation.
Greta Gerwig will once again showcase her dual talents as both writer and director for this fresh take on C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. The upcoming film will adapt the prequel novel, The Magician's Nephew, which unfolds before the events of the iconic and widely recognized Narnia story, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Carey Mulligan, known for her numerous accolades including Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations, is set to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig will embody the film's titular magician and Digory's uncle, while Emma Mackey will bring to life a younger version of the notorious White Witch. Adding to the ensemble, Meryl Streep will lend her voice to the majestic Aslan, the series' god-like talking lion.
This isn't the first time Narnia has captivated audiences on the big screen. A previous trilogy released between 2005 and 2010 adapted the first three Narnia books: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. These films featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.
Gerwig's vision for Narnia follows her success with the 2023 blockbuster, Barbie, which starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling and secured eight Academy Award nominations, ultimately winning for Best Original Song. Fans can look forward to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, set to enchant audiences upon its release in 2026.
