Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Author: Lucy May 25,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to its iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, thrusting players into the heart of 16th-century Japan as Naoe and Yasuke. With over 30 games under the Assassin’s Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries for this discussion, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR versions, and spin-offs like Bloodlines and Liberation.

The saga began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to embody his ancestor Altaïr, and now, 18 years later, it has evolved significantly. Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks the 14th installment in the core series. I've taken the liberty to rank these mainline games based on my personal enjoyment, and you can check out my tier list below:

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, nestled comfortably in the S-tier. The blend of island exploration, exhilarating ship combat, and a vibrant cast of characters makes it the quintessential Assassin’s Creed experience for me. It's joined in the S-tier by Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly propelled the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, which might raise eyebrows due to its scale, but I found the Viking-themed combat and the Orlog minigame irresistible. Unity also shares this tier, thanks to its breathtaking recreation of Paris during the French Revolution, which remains visually stunning even a decade on.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you think Valhalla is too expansive or that Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated? Now's your chance to create your own tier list for the mainline Assassin’s Creed games. Compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community below:
