The latest model features a sleeker design, cutting-edge components, and enhanced cooling capabilities. As part of the Dell Memorial Day Sale, various configurations of the Alienware 16 Area-51 and Alienware 18 Area-51 are available at discounted prices for the first time, all equipped with the latest Nvidia Blackwell GPUs such as the RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090. These laptops are expected to ship in mid-June.

Memorial Day Alienware 18 Area-51 Deals

The Alienware 18 Area-51 is designed as a mobile desktop replacement rather than a daily commuter laptop. Weighing nearly 10 pounds and with a thickness of just 0.95 inches at its slimmest, it's a powerhouse that requires a substantial 360W power brick and is best used plugged in. Its larger size accommodates an expansive 18" display, a full-sized keyboard with a dedicated numpad, and a robust cooling system that keeps noise levels low while providing space for an RJ45 ethernet port.

Two models are currently discounted for Memorial Day. The $3,150 model features RTX 5080 mobile graphics and 32GB of memory, while the $3,750 model is upgraded with RTX 5090 mobile graphics and 64GB of memory.

Memorial Day Alienware 16 Area-51 Deals

While the Alienware 16 may not have the imposing presence of its 18-inch counterpart, it remains a premium gaming laptop focused on maximum power and cooling efficiency. At 7.5 pounds and 0.85 inches thick, it also comes with a 360W power brick and is recommended to be used while plugged in. The smaller size results in a 16" display and a standard laptop keyboard without a dedicated numpad or ethernet jack. However, it can still be equipped with top-tier internals such as an Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, supported by a robust cooling system.

Four models are currently on sale for Memorial Day. The $2,850 model includes RTX 5070 Ti mobile graphics, while the $2,999.99 and $3,150 models come with RTX 5080. The $3,650 model is equipped with the top-end RTX 5090.

This CPU / GPU Combo Excels in Any Game

The Area-51 laptop is powered by the formidable Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, boasting a max turbo frequency of 5.4GHz, 24 cores, and 40MB of L2 cache. According to Passmark, this processor is among the fastest in the mobile market, competing directly with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D.

Notebookcheck reports that the RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU is the true successor to the RTX 4070, delivering performance comparable to the RTX 4080. The RTX 5070, however, performs similarly to the RTX 4070 and is suitable for running games at the native 1920x1200 resolution.

Tom's Hardware notes that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU offers a 15%-20% performance boost over the RTX 4080 and even outperforms the RTX 4090 by about 5%. The RTX 5080 presents a better value proposition than the pricier RTX 5090, with only a 15% performance gap despite being nearly $1,000 cheaper. Given the QHD+ (2560x1600) display on the Alienware Area-51, the RTX 5080 should handle new and upcoming games at high frame rates, especially with DLSS 4 support.

The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling

For 2025, the Alienware Area-51 introduces a magnesium alloy chassis with enhanced cooling features to manage the latest high-heat components. This includes additional fans, larger vents for improved airflow, increased copper usage, and a new thermal interface material for better heat dissipation. Dell claims the laptop can handle up to a 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.

The design of the Area-51 showcases smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, contrasting with the typical squared-off designs of other laptops. The hinges are mostly internal, making them nearly invisible. As expected from an Alienware laptop, there are numerous RGB LED lighting customization options. Connectivity includes three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16" model weighs 7.5 pounds, while the 18" model is 9.6 pounds.
