Warner Bros. Announces The Shutdown Of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Just One Year After Its Launch

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile title, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially going offline October 21st, 2024.

The reasons behind the closure remain unannounced, although NetherRealm's recent dissolution of its mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a potential shift in company strategy.

The status of in-game purchases and potential refunds is currently unclear. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have not yet commented on this, but promise further details soon. Players are encouraged to monitor the official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.

Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike its fighting game predecessors, it blended action-adventure RPG elements with a cinematic narrative, drawing comparisons to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game's storyline centered on Raiden and a player-controlled team thwarting Shinnok's attempt to regain his power.
