Unveiled gifts and Sony's updated policy for PSN on PC

Sony's PC gaming policy sparks controversy among players. The company's requirement for PSN tethering, even in single-player titles, and the service's limited regional availability, restricts access to recent releases.

Sony recently announced policy adjustments. While PSN tethering for PC remains, some concessions have been made. These games will not require mandatory PSN tethering:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Players who choose to tether to PSN will receive these bonuses:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" suit line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Black Bear armor set, the first "Lost Things" chest, and a resource pack.
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points for unlocking features.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.

In November, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged investor concerns regarding PSN connection requirements, emphasizing its role in maintaining security and order. While he referenced service-based games, he failed to clarify how mandatory PSN accounts enhance security in single-player games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök.

Times have changed. The gaming landscape demands a re-evaluation of these practices.
