A groundbreaking tech demo powered by Unreal Engine 5.5.3 has been unveiled, providing gamers with an immersive journey through a futuristic cyberpunk cityscape. This captivating project, crafted by the talented artist Sciontidesign, takes its cues from the iconic Samaritan UE3 demo, the visionary Blade Runner series, and the expansive world of Cyberpunk 2077. The demo was demonstrated on top-tier hardware, including an NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU, and 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 6000MHz.
This technical showcase is a testament to the power of dynamic lighting within Unreal Engine, employing Nanite with Distance Field Meshes and Ambient Occlusion, alongside Screen Space Reflections. Remarkably, it does not utilize advanced features like Lumen, Path Tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting, which emphasizes the engine's capability to produce stunning visuals even without its most sophisticated tools.
While the rain effect in the demo may come across as somewhat artificial, the rendering of wet surfaces is executed with remarkable detail, enhancing the depth and realism of the urban environment. However, the experience is marred by the frequent presence of invisible walls, which can disrupt the immersion. Unreal Engine 5 tech demos are renowned for their visually impressive showcases, yet when these technologies are integrated into full-fledged games, performance issues often arise in real-world applications.
