Actress Sydney Sweeney is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to star in the upcoming live-action Gundam film.

Back in February, it was officially announced that the live-action adaptation of the iconic Mobile Suit Gundam anime and toy franchise had entered production. This follows a co-financing agreement between Bandai Namco and Legendary.

The companies confirmed that Mobile Suit Gundam, which does not yet have an official title, will be written and directed by Sweet Tooth's showrunner, Kim Mickle. The film is scheduled for a global theatrical release. While no specific release date or plot details were provided, a teaser poster was unveiled.

Variety reported on Sweeney's potential involvement in the live-action Gundam project, though details about her character and the plot remain undisclosed.

Sweeney is best known for her roles in the HBO series Euphoria, The White Lotus, the film Reality, the romantic comedy Anyone but You, and the recent superhero film Madame Web. Last month, it was also announced that she is attached to star in and produce a movie based on a horror story that originated in a Reddit thread.

"We intend to share more information as it is finalized," Legendary and Bandai Namco stated when the live-action film was initially announced.

"Since its debut in 1979, Mobile Suit Gundam defined the 'real robot' genre, moving beyond the simple good-versus-evil themes common in robot anime at the time. It presented a realistic portrayal of war, detailed scientific concepts, and complex human drama, treating the robots—known as 'mobile suits'—as genuine weapons, which sparked a major cultural phenomenon," the companies added.
