Sydney Sweeney has been cast in the upcoming film adaptation of the game Split Fiction.

Last month, reports confirmed a movie based on Hazelight's acclaimed title was in development. Story Kitchen, the production company behind the successful Sonic film adaptations, is leading the project by assembling writers, a director, and a cast.

According to Variety, Split Fiction is now gaining momentum with Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney confirmed for a role. Jon M. Chu, director of Wicked, is attached to direct, while the screenplay will be penned by Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Story Kitchen is currently presenting this talent package to Hollywood studios, potentially sparking a competitive bidding war.

A key question remains: which of the game's dual protagonists—Zoe or Mio—will Sweeney portray. Variety notes that this decision has not yet been finalized.

Although Split Fiction launched just this March, it has quickly become another major hit for Hazelight and creative lead Josef Fares, selling more than two million copies within a week. The game is also scheduled to be a launch title for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

IGN's review of Split Fiction awarded it a 9/10, praising it as: “An expertly crafted co-op adventure that seamlessly transitions between diverse genres, Split Fiction is a thrilling ride filled with constantly evolving gameplay concepts and styles—making it incredibly hard to put down.”

This isn't the only Hazelight game headed for the big screen. The hugely popular It Takes Two, which has sold 23 million copies, is also slated for a film adaptation, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is rumored to be in consideration for a starring role.

Naturally, there's no guarantee these Hazelight film projects will all come to fruition. Yet, given the current boom in successful video game adaptations, Hollywood seems highly motivated to bring them to life.

In a previous announcement, Story Kitchen revealed plans for a film based on Square Enix's Just Cause, with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto attached to direct. The company is also developing adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs, in addition to exploring a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie.

Meanwhile, Hazelight has already begun teasing its next video game project.
