DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Commences Filming; First Look Revealed
Production has officially begun on DC's upcoming film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, marking a significant step forward for James Gunn's revamped DC Universe. To celebrate, Gunn unveiled a first look at Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, sharing a photo of the actress in her director's chair on Bluesky.
Gunn's post confirmed Craig Gillespie (Cruella, I, Tonya) as the film's director, a fact previously reported last April. He expressed his enthusiasm, highlighting Alcock's talent and the commencement of filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.
The film is heavily inspired by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira's acclaimed graphic novel. This standalone story centers on Ruthye Marye Knoll, an alien girl seeking Supergirl's aid in avenging her father's murder at the hands of the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The graphic novel, a 2022 Eisner Award nominee for "Best Limited Series," is recommended viewing for those unfamiliar with the source material.
Casting announcements include Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem and Eve Ridley as Ruthye. Further additions to the cast include David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl's father), Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother, and Jason Momoa, reprising his role as Lobo within the new DC Universe continuity.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows James Gunn's Superman: Legacy, slated for release this summer, as the second film in the rebooted DC Universe. Other projects in development include The Batman Part II (whose connection to Gunn's universe remains unclear) and a rumored Clayface film from Mike Flanagan.
