Stellar Blade DRM and Region Lock Issues Addressed Ahead of PC Release

Stellar Blade's development team has responded to player concerns about the game's DRM implementation and regional restrictions. Here's what you need to know about these protections and the studio's plans regarding regional availability.

Developer Responds to DRM Questions

As Stellar Blade prepares for its PC launch, developer SHIFT UP addressed player concerns about the inclusion of Denuvo anti-tamper technology. In a May 17 social media post, the team assured players that "the DRM implementation has been optimized to maintain consistent frame rates, with some scenarios even showing improved minimum frame performance."

Denuvo serves as digital rights management technology designed to prevent unauthorized copying and distribution of games. While effective against piracy, its impact on game performance has been widely debated within the gaming community for years.

SHIFT UP shared performance comparison data between DRM-enabled and DRM-free versions, demonstrating nearly identical results across all measured metrics. The tests showed matching average frame rates, minimum frame rates, maximum frame rates, and stability benchmarks.

The studio also confirmed full mod support with no restrictions - a significant concession that addresses another common concern with DRM-protected games. While players appreciated this transparency, many continue to advocate for complete removal of Denuvo to improve accessibility.

Addressing Regional Restrictions

Another pressing issue involves regional PlayStation Network restrictions affecting the PC version. Despite not requiring PSN connectivity, the game remains unavailable in approximately 130 countries lacking PSN support.

SHIFT UP stated they're "actively working with the publisher to resolve regional restrictions" and promised equivalent content for both PC and PS5 versions. The developers emphasized their commitment to ensuring "early adopters won't be at any disadvantage through subsequent updates."

While players welcome these responses, many hope for eventual removal of both DRM and regional limitations. Stellar Blade launches on Steam June 11. For continuous updates, please refer to our coverage below.
