IGN has an exciting update for fans of Hollow Knight: Silksong. The long-awaited game from Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18, 2025. This comes as part of the museum's "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also showcase the game's intricate design and artistic direction.
As one of the most anticipated indie games globally, Silksong has consistently topped the Steam wishlist chart. Although Team Cherry has not specified a precise release date beyond a 2025 window, the opportunity to experience the game at ACMI suggests that a release might be sooner rather than later. Fans are speculating that an August 2025 launch could be on the cards to ensure the game is playable at the museum by September.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm about featuring Silksong as a centerpiece of the Game Worlds exhibition. They highlighted the detailed animations of Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as the complex logic behind the game's boss fights. "We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!" they added.
ACMI also shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of many design elements that will be on display. This image was provided to IGN with permission.
Recent developments indicate that Silksong is gaining momentum. It made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, reaffirming the 2025 release window. Initially planned for Nintendo Switch and PC, the game will also be available on Xbox (including Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Throughout the years, Team Cherry has kept fans engaged with various teases, including a mysterious chocolate cake recipe at the start of 2025, fueling hopes for a re-reveal in April.
