Silksong Dev Hints at Switch 2 with Cake Pic

It's been six years since Team Cherry announced Hollow Knight: Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 Metroidvania gem, Hollow Knight. Over these years, fans have been on a rollercoaster of anticipation, with Silksong making appearances and then disappearing at various gaming events. At one point, Microsoft even hinted at a release before June 2023, but that didn't pan out. The Game Awards came and went without a whisper of Silksong. However, with the recent announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, could this finally be the moment fans have been waiting for?

The speculation is fueled by a seemingly innocuous image of a cake. Let me break it down for you.

On January 15, eagle-eyed fans on the Hollow Knight subreddit noticed that Team Cherry co-director William Pellen had changed his Twitter/X profile picture to a chocolate cake. Accompanying this change, Pellen tweeted: “something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow.”

At that time, rumors were swirling about a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal on January 16, which indeed happened. Nintendo officially announced the Switch 2, leaving many questions about the next-gen console unanswered. Was Pellen's tweet a nod to the Switch 2 reveal? If so, why?

This is where the Hollow Knight community's speculation kicked into high gear. Fans reverse-searched the cake image, leading them to a recipe for Brooklyn Blackout Cake on the Bon Appétit website, published on April 2, 2024.

Why is this date significant? Because Nintendo confirmed that the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 will air on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Fans believe Pellen's tweet and cake picture are the start of a Silksong alternate reality game (ARG).

The speculation doesn't stop there. Fans are now trying to decipher Pellen's new X/Twitter handle, @everydruidwaswr. Redditor Representative-True proposed an intriguing theory: "The character limit on Twitter handles is 15 characters, which is the length of ‘everydruidwaswr.’ I think “wr” is likely the start of a word, like wrong or something. I have yet to decipher this, but the Druid of the Moss Temple is a Silksong NPC."

Adding to the mystery, Pellen's new X/Twitter name is "little bomey." Fans have noted that Little Boomey is a wine from Southern Australia, where Team Cherry is based, though the spelling differs. What could this mean?

It's important to recall that when Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed launch platforms as Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. But that was six years ago. Could Nintendo have secured Silksong as a Switch 2 launch title? Is it a timed exclusive? Or is this all just the wild speculation of fans desperate for news?

We'll have to wait a few more months to find out. In the meantime, check out everything announced at Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal.
