Hollow Knight: Silksong is still progressing, says Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager Matthew Griffin. Read on to find out more about the details and the speculations!
This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real
Confirmed By Team Cherry’s Griffin
Following recent developments, fans of Hollow Knight can now breathe a sigh of relief—Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Head, Matthew "Leth" Griffin, has officially confirmed that Silksong is not only real but also actively in development. The update came after a fan reached out online asking for reassurance, reigniting hope among the game's long-awaiting community.
The speculation began when Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen changed his X (Twitter) profile picture to an image of a cake, prompting fans to theorize it was a cryptic hint toward a new Silksong announcement or even a potential ARG. Some even speculated a reveal for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, these theories were later debunked by YouTuber fireb0rn, who contacted Griffin directly. According to him, Pellen’s tweet was simply a lighthearted change with no hidden meaning. “Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie,” fireb0rn later tweeted.
Despite the false alarm, Griffin offered genuine reassurance, stating: “Yes the game is real, progressing and will release.” This marks the first official update regarding Silksong in over a year and a half, bringing a spark of optimism back into the community.
Silksong’s Six-Year-Long Journey
Originally unveiled in February 2019 with an intended release window in the first half of 2023, Silksong faced its first major delay in May 2023. At the time, Team Cherry explained that the game had grown significantly in scope, requiring additional time to polish and refine the experience. The title promises a brand-new kingdom to explore, nearly 150 fresh enemies, and a unique difficulty mode called Silk Soul.
Now, nearly two years after the initial postponement, Team Cherry has finally broken its silence with this brief but meaningful update. While some fans expressed gratitude for the confirmation and encouraged the team to take their time without pressure, others voiced frustration after waiting nearly six years for tangible progress.
Set for release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, Hollow Knight: Silksong will follow Hornet—the princess-protector of Hallownest—as she embarks on a perilous journey through an unknown world, climbing to the peak of a distant kingdom.
As of now, no official release window has been announced, but fans are hopeful for more news soon. Stay tuned for further updates and announcements as they develop!
