Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission stream focused entirely on Silent Hill f, the highly anticipated new installment in the iconic horror franchise that transports players to 1960s Japan.
First revealed in 2022, Silent Hill f was described as transporting players to a world that's "beautiful, yet terrifying." The game features writing by Ryukishi07, the celebrated Japanese author behind the Higurashi and Umineko visual novel series.
After years of anticipation, we finally received substantial new information about Silent Hill f during today's presentation.
Silent Hill f Explores the Beauty Within Horror Through Difficult Choices in 60s Japan
Konami unveiled a stunning new trailer for Silent Hill f along with fresh details, emphasizing the game's focus on finding beauty within terror while presenting players with morally ambiguous choices set in 1960s Japan.
While keeping specifics about the pivotal decision secret, Konami shared this story setup:
"Shimizu Hinkao lived an ordinary teenage life until her town became engulfed in mysterious fog, transforming into something horrifying. Now she must navigate this unrecognizable town - solving puzzles, battling bizarre creatures, and struggling to survive - all leading to an ultimate, heart-wrenching decision. This is a story about a beautiful yet terrible choice."
Though introducing an original narrative welcoming to newcomers, the game will include subtle nods for series veterans. The story unfolds in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by the real location of Kanayama in Gifu Prefecture.
Creature designer kera shared insights that should thrill fans about the game's disturbing visions:
"As a lifelong Silent Hill fan deeply influenced by Silent Hill 2's environmental storytelling and monster designs, creating creatures for this Japanese setting presented unique challenges. While maintaining the series' essence, we're delivering something fresh that honors but evolves the franchise's legacy."
Music plays a crucial role, with legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka collaborating with Kensuke Inage (Dynasty Warriors) to craft distinct soundscapes for the Fog World and Otherworld.
"I've blended ancient Japanese court music with ambient textures to musically represent the protagonist's emotional turmoil—her fear, conflict, and suffering," explained Inage.
While no release date was announced, Silent Hill f is confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms.
