"Saros: Housemarque's New Game Post-Returnal, Set for 2026"

Author: Alexis Jul 15,2025

Housemarque has officially unveiled Saros, the studio’s highly anticipated follow-up to the 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal. Set for a 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and enhanced for PS5 Pro, Saros stars Rahul Kohli in a leading role and promises to deliver an intense, action-packed experience true to Housemarque’s signature style.

Revealed during today's PlayStation State of Play presentation, Saros immediately feels like a natural evolution of the studio’s design philosophy. In the game, players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer navigating a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in mystery. The world is marked by a haunting eclipse and dominated by at least one massive, formidable entity—elements that strongly echo the surreal tone and atmospheric tension of Returnal.

The phrase “come back stronger” hints at a gameplay loop familiar to fans of roguelikes, while the visual spectacle of fireball barrages suggests Housemarque's continued mastery of bullet-hell mechanics and fast-paced combat.

PlayCreative director Gregory Louden describes *Saros* as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque’s gameplay-first approach. While it introduces a brand-new single-player IP, the title builds upon the third-person action foundation established in *Returnal*.

However, Saros isn’t just a rehash of past experiences. As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, one of the core differences between Saros and Returnal lies in how progression and resources function. Although the game world shifts after each death, players will also have access to permanent upgrades for their weapons and suits—an exciting twist that adds a new layer of long-term investment to the experience.

More details about Saros are expected to surface later this year, with Housemarque planning to share an extended gameplay reveal in the near future.
