Reputable gaming journalist Jason Schreier reports that the celebrated Rocksteady Studios is developing a new, single-player Batman game.

Specifics are limited; Schreier hasn't confirmed if it's a prequel, a sequel to the Arkham series, or a completely separate storyline. However, a source suggests Rocksteady is creating a Batman Beyond title, placing players in a futuristic Gotham City. Their goal? A full trilogy. Release is anticipated on next-generation consoles.

The Arkham series was celebrated for its stunning graphics, and a futuristic Gotham could be Rocksteady's most visually impressive work yet. The Batman Beyond setting also addresses a significant challenge: following the passing of Kevin Conroy in 2022, the studio might focus on Terry McGinnis or Damian Wayne, mirroring Warner Bros. Montreal's plans for the canceled Batman: Arkham Knight sequel.

Rocksteady's previous project, an online shooter, underperformed, leading to the cancellation of post-launch content within a year. The narrative concluded abruptly with an animated short that retconned controversial plot elements, revealing certain fallen heroes to be clones.

Rocksteady is now returning to its strengths, creating a new solo Batman experience. However, sources indicate the game is still several years from release.
