Nvidia Issues RTX 5090 and 5080 Stock Shortage Warning to PC Gamers Ahead of Hotly Anticipated Release Date

Author: Victoria Feb 20,2025

The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards are set to launch on January 30th, but concerns about severe shortages are already surfacing. Reports from retailers and manufacturers indicate limited initial stock, prompting some consumers to line up outside stores in anticipation. The cards, priced at $1,999 and $999 respectively, are generating immense demand.

MSI, a major manufacturer, attributes the initial scarcity to the Lunar New Year, expecting stock levels to improve in February. This aligns with reports from retailers like Overclockers UK, which reported receiving only a handful of RTX 5090 units, and PowerGPU, who predicted extremely limited availability for the RTX 5090 launch.

To address these concerns, Nvidia representative Tim@Nvidia issued a statement on their official forum acknowledging the high demand and potential for stock-outs. They assured consumers that Nvidia and its partners are actively working to increase retail stock.

Despite Nvidia's statement, scalpers are already capitalizing on the anticipated shortage. Pre-sale listings on eBay are showing inflated prices, with one Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 listed for a staggering $5,750 – a massive markup of 187% over the MSRP.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges, their share price experienced a significant 16.86% drop on Monday following the announcement of the DeepSeek AI model, which poses a potential threat to Nvidia's datacenter GPU sales.
