Nintendo has officially announced the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch games to their Switch 2 Editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come with a hefty price tag, significantly higher than what was seen for other titles.
Previously, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom required a $9.99 upgrade fee to move from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition. However, as NintendoLife pointed out, both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrades cost more than double that amount each.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service available on the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy these enhancements.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World". Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition features "Jamboree TV", a new content suite that utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, the Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, this edition boasts upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.
Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet confirmed—possibly due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade at £16.99 / €19.99, over twice the £7.99 / €9.99 fee for upgrading Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. The Super Mario Party Jamboree upgrade carries the same price, suggesting a $19.99 cost in the U.S.
This $20 upgrade price for both games may be influenced by the high $80 price point for the full versions of Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV. Notably, their original Switch versions are priced at $59.99 each, which is $20 less.
For those not opting for the upgrade, here are the U.S. prices for the full Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:
- Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no extra cost for Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Party Jamboree.
Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders became available on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Demand was exceptionally high, leading Nintendo to warn U.S. customers who pre-ordered via the My Nintendo Store that they might not receive their consoles on release day.
