Pokémon GO: Morpeko Arrives, Dynamax/Gigantamax Teased!

Pokémon GO Adds Morpeko and More, Hints at Dynamax and Gigantamax Coming to Game

Get ready for significant updates to Pokémon GO! Developer Niantic has hinted at the arrival of Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics, features initially seen in Pokémon Sword and Shield. This follows the confirmation of Morpeko's addition to the game.

Galar Region Focus for the New Season?

Niantic announced Morpeko's imminent arrival, highlighting its form-changing abilities during battles via Charged Attacks. This announcement fueled fan speculation about the introduction of Dynamax and Gigantamax. These mechanics, unique to the Galar region, dramatically increase a Pokémon's size and stats.

Niantic's statement, "Coming soon: Morpeko will charge into Pokémon GO, changing the way you battle! Certain Pokémon—like Morpeko—will be able to change form in battle by using a Charged Attack, unleashing new possibilities for you and your battle team," along with their teaser of "big changes, big battles, and…big Pokémon" for the upcoming season, strongly suggests these mechanics are on the horizon.

While details remain scarce, these "big" changes are expected to launch in September. The addition of Morpeko has led to speculation about other Galar Pokémon like Mimikyu and Aegislash also joining the game. The implementation of Dynamax/Gigantamax in Pokémon GO remains unclear, including whether Power Spots (from Sword and Shield) will be replicated. The current Shared Skies season ends September 3rd, and many believe the next season will center on Galar Pokémon, further fueling the anticipation. These are, however, still just speculations.
