Monster Hunter Wilds Will Focus On Humans And Nature
A Deeper Understanding Of What It Means To Be A Hunter
The Monster Hunter series celebrates the role of a skilled hunter who ensures a harmonious balance between monsters and humans. Capcom's development team is eager to further explore this theme, adding more depth and personality to the player character.
Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is set to delve into the complex relationship between the world's nature, its inhabitants, and the role hunters play. "The relationship between people, nature, and monsters, and what exactly is a hunter's role in a world like that…We wanted to illustrate that not just through the gameplay, but with a profound narrative. We have numerous plans aligned with the concept of Monster Hunter Wilds, and we believe this game successfully captures what we aimed to convey," game director Yuya Tokuda explained in an interview with PC Gamer.
To achieve this, Monster Hunter Wilds will feature more dialogue, allowing players to inject more personality into their hunter characters. Tokuda highlighted the diverse population within the game's world, each with unique backgrounds and perspectives. He cited characters like Nata and Olivia, who approach the monster situation differently. "There are many people with different perspectives living together. We wanted to show how a hunter would feel and think in such a world. Everyone is different, so we decided to incorporate those elements into Monster Hunter Wilds."
This approach marks a departure from the series' tradition of silent protagonists and limited dialogue. However, Capcom assures that this shift won't compromise the beloved combat system. "Some players might prefer to skip the dialogue and focus on hunting the next monster—that's perfectly fine. The amount of text in the game won't affect the number of monsters available, so we can cater to everyone," Tokuda emphasized. This is just the start, as the director hinted at "many other things planned down the line" that will continue to explore the bond between humans and nature.
