Hashino, when discussing the studio's future plans, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Regarding the possibility of Metaphor: ReFantazio becoming a franchise, Hashino admitted that there are no concrete plans currently. His focus remains on successfully completing the current project. He revealed that the game was initially conceived as the third major JRPG series for Atlus, following Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a flagship title for the company.
While Hashino previously dismissed sequel plans, the team is already developing their next project, which is highly unlikely to be Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. However, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has already achieved significant success for Atlus, boasting the company's best-ever concurrent player count on a new platform.
The game's peak concurrent player count reached 85,961, surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474 players) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002 players). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
