The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has secured its writers, with John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, taking on the screenplay. Announced today, the duo will adapt the iconic Hasbro board game into a feature film, which will be produced by Margot Robbie under her production company, LuckyChap.

Daley and Goldstein have an impressive track record, having recently written and directed the original film Mayday as well as contributing to the scripts for The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Their involvement adds a promising layer of creativity and experience to the project.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a film adaptation date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the script, but that effort eventually stalled. Subsequent attempts in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborating on a version penned by Andrew Niccol, and in 2019, it was announced that actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story would be involved. However, none of these plans materialized.

The recent acquisition of eOne by Lionsgate from Hasbro has reignited efforts to produce the film. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm, there's renewed hope that this version of the Monopoly movie will successfully "pass Go" and deliver an engaging cinematic experience to fans of the classic game.
