The future of MultiVersus hangs in the balance. Season 5, launching in early February, could be its last stand, according to industry insider AusilMV. AusilMV cites a reliable source claiming the season is a final attempt to revive the game's dwindling player base. While currently just a rumor, the situation is undeniably precarious.
The game's initial 2022 launch was a phenomenal success, boasting a peak of 153,000 concurrent Steam players. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly after, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, conveniently labeling it an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates in May 2024 failed to recapture its former glory.
This relaunch, disguised as a continuation after a "beta" period, left many players feeling betrayed, particularly those who had invested in the premium edition. The March 2023 announcement of the June shutdown caused significant backlash. Now, the success of Season 5 is crucial to the game's survival. Its performance will likely determine whether MultiVersus continues or fades into obscurity.
