Guillermo del Toro's passion for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein rivals even the infamous doctor's own obsession. A recent Netflix preview showcased a first look at del Toro's long-awaited adaptation, although a full trailer remains elusive until summer. The image revealed Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein.
Del Toro, in a video message, confessed, "This film has been a lifelong dream, occupying my thoughts for half a century. I've pursued this adaptation for two to three decades; some might even say I'm a little obsessed!" He gestured to his extensive Frankenstein-themed collection within his dedicated "Frankenstein room" at his renowned Bleak House.
A brief glimpse of footage was also shared, showcasing Isaac's Victor Frankenstein in a confrontation with Mia Goth, portraying a wealthy aristocrat, and Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein's monster, described as possessing "long black hair, stitched-up gray skin, and a glint of red in his eyes." This footage, however, remains unavailable online.
Del Toro profoundly stated, "Over the years, this character has become intrinsically linked to my soul; it's become an autobiography. It doesn't get more personal than this."
The director's dedication is undeniable. The journey to bring this Frankenstein adaptation to life has been exceptionally long, underscoring the depth of his personal connection to the project.
