Genki at CES: A Closer Look at the Nintendo Switch 2 Mockup

Genki, known for its gaming accessories, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing key design features and sparking further discussion about Nintendo's next-gen console. The mockup, reportedly based on a black market unit, accurately reflects the Switch 2's dimensions, showcasing several notable changes.

The mockup highlighted a larger console, approaching the size of the Steam Deck. Most striking were the seemingly magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and a puzzling new "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed details in an interview with The Verge.

Magnetic Joy-Con and Optical Sensors:

Tsai confirmed the magnetic attachment of the Joy-Con, specifically mentioning the SL and SR buttons. A release mechanism involving a button on each Joy-Con disengages the magnetic connection. Despite the change from sliding rails, the Joy-Con remain secure during gameplay. Furthermore, the Joy-Con feature optical sensors, hinting at potential new functionalities, perhaps mouse-like capabilities via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Recently leaked images seem to support the presence of these sensors.

Dock Compatibility and Other Mysteries:

While the Switch 2's larger form factor still allows it to physically fit into the original Switch dock, design differences prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the mysterious "C" button remain unknown, even to Genki.
