Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and DLC
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently shared insights into the PC version of the game, addressing player interest in potential DLC and the modding community. Read on for details.
DLC: A Fan-Driven Possibility
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints prioritized completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated, "We did have the desire to add an episodic story as a new DLC to the PC version," but finishing the next game takes precedence. However, he left the door open: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." Substantial player demand could influence future DLC development.
A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility
Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community. While official mod support isn't included, the team anticipates and respects the creative contributions of modders. He requested, however, that modders refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for creative mods is significant, with the ability to enhance visuals, add features, and even potentially create entirely new experiences. However, the need to maintain a respectful and appropriate gaming environment is crucial.
PC Version Enhancements and Challenges
The PC version boasts graphical improvements, including enhanced lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing concerns about the "uncanny valley" effect present in the original release. Higher-end systems will benefit from improved 3D models and textures beyond the PS5 capabilities. However, adapting the mini-games for PC proved challenging, requiring extensive work on key configuration settings.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. The game initially released on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim.
