Dice of Kalma is an upcoming roguelike deckbuilder that seems straightforward at first – until you learn you'll be rolling dice against Death itself. Suddenly, your mind races with strategic possibilities.
Developed by Pepperbox Studios, we first encountered Dice of Kalma at The Very Big Indie Pitch during Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki. It immediately stood out among the many experimental roguelikes and inventive deck-builders. Now, it's preparing for release with pre-registration available on iOS and Android.
You challenge Kalma, the stern guardian of the Underworld. Every dice roll becomes a tactical battle where luck and strategy decide your fate. Progress unlocks additional skulls that can either swing the battle in your favor or condemn you to another stretch in the darkness.
You can proceed cautiously, calculate the odds, or risk everything hoping Death glances away. The true appeal, however, lies in the evolving skull deck you assemble. Each skull possesses a unique effect that subtly shapes your approach – perhaps rewarding bold rerolls or rescuing a poor turn.

Gradually, your deck becomes a reflection of your chosen strategy against Death: methodical and precise, or reckless and determined. It creates a deeply satisfying roguelike cycle where victory feels deserved and defeat only heightens the appeal of another attempt.
Perhaps that's the magic: the more Kalma defeats you, the more you anticipate your next encounter. If Dice of Kalma delivers even half the promise it showed in Helsinki, you'll likely find yourself returning repeatedly for just one more roll.
Pre-registration for Dice of Kalma is currently active on the App Store and Google Play, with an expected release date of December 31st.
