The acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an eagerly awaited second season. Cosmo Jarvis, renowned for his portrayal of pilot John Blackthorn, is set to reprise his role and step into the shoes of a co-executive producer for Season 2, as confirmed by an official FX press release.
In addition to Jarvis's return, Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga, has also committed to Season 2. Initially joining last May after the series was renewed—despite its original limited series format—Sanada has been elevated to the role of executive producer following his production contributions to the first season. Production for the new season is scheduled to kick off in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.
FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter" diverging from the adaptation of James Clavell’s novel that defined the first season. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons:"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) was embroiled in a struggle for survival against his adversaries within the Council of Regents. The arrival of a stranded European ship introduced its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), who provided crucial strategic insights that shifted the balance of power in Toranaga's favor, ultimately helping him win a pivotal civil war.
"Season two of Shōgun takes place a decade later and continues to weave the historically-inspired tale of these two men from disparate worlds, whose destinies remain deeply intertwined.”
While fans eagerly anticipate the continuation of this riveting series, we can only hope that new episodes will grace our screens by the end of 2026. Until then, the wait continues.
