Borderlands 4 Gets Own PlayStation State of Play

PlayStation has officially announced that Borderlands 4 will be the star of its dedicated State of Play, scheduled for today. On April 29, PlayStation shared via X (formerly Twitter) that the Borderlands 4 State of Play will commence on April 30 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST / 11 PM CEST. During the live stream, Gearbox Software's developers will dive deep into the world of the upcoming FPS sequel. A post on the PlayStation.blog on April 29 detailed that the State of Play will feature over 20 minutes of gameplay, guided by the developers. Expect to see missions, a showcase of killer weapons, thrilling Action Skills, and insights into both new and returning characters.

Launch Date Moved to September 12

In a surprising turn of events following the State of Play announcement, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford took to X on April 29 to reveal that Borderlands 4's launch date has been moved up to September 12. Although he initially deleted the video and quickly followed up with a post saying he had shared it prematurely, the excitement was palpable.

In the video, Pitchford explained that the development of Borderlands 4 is progressing exceptionally well, describing it as "the best scenario." This progress has enabled them to advance the game's release date. Previously, at PlayStation’s February State of Play, Borderlands 4 was slated for a September 23 release. However, an official X post from Borderlands 4 confirmed the new, earlier release date.

The official statement read, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
