Anbernic, a well-known manufacturer of retro handheld consoles, has announced a suspension of all U.S. orders due to recent changes in U.S. tariff policies. As reported by The Verge, the company advises customers to prioritize purchasing from their U.S. warehouse to avoid import duties. Products shipped directly from China will not be processed until further notice.
Anbernic is recognized for its affordable Game Boy-inspired devices, which are usually shipped from China upon release and then stored in U.S. warehouses for easier distribution. However, their website allows customers to choose between U.S. and China shipping options, although not all products, such as the Anbernic RG CubeXX and RG 406H, are available from U.S. stock. This means these specific items will be temporarily unavailable to American customers.
The recent tariff policies, introduced by the Trump administration, have imposed rates of up to 145% on Chinese imports, with potential increases to 245% for certain products like electric vehicles. These tariffs often result in higher prices for consumers, affecting various tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.
Anbernic has stated that they are actively seeking a solution to assist customers who might face additional customs fees during this period of transition.
In related news, Nintendo recently unveiled the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct. Originally, pre-orders for the console were scheduled to begin in early April in the U.S., but due to tariff-related uncertainties in both the U.S. and Canada, the launch was postponed to April 24. Despite the delay, Nintendo has maintained the $449.99 price point for the Switch 2 and its games, though prices for most Switch 2 accessories have been raised.
