CD Projekt Red recently shared exciting details about The Witcher 4, revealing new regions and monsters in an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4 Expands its World with New Locations and Monsters
A Glimpse into Stromford and the Bauk
Following the Game Awards 2024, The Witcher 4 game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga spoke with Gamertag Radio’s Parris. The conversation unveiled the introduction of fresh environments and formidable creatures.
Ciri's journey will lead players to uncharted territories on The Continent. Kalemba identified the village shown in the trailer as "Stromford," a place where a chilling ritual of child sacrifice is practiced to appease their deity.
This "god," as revealed by Kalemba, is a monster named "Bauk," inspired by Serbian mythology. Described as a "tricky bastard," Bauk is a terrifying presence that instills fear in its victims. Beyond Bauk, players can expect a host of other new monsters to challenge them.
While Kalemba expressed enthusiasm about the new locations and creatures, he remained tight-lipped about specifics, promising a truly unique experience within the familiar setting of The Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP on December 15, 2024, confirmed that Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Given Stromford's location in the far North, it suggests Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's previously explored territories.
Enhanced NPC Interactions in The Witcher 4
Returning to the Gamertag Radio interview, Kalemba highlighted significant advancements in NPC development for The Witcher 4.
Parris noted the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3 and observed the increased diversity in The Witcher 4's trailer. Kalemba responded by emphasizing their commitment to giving "every single NPC" a unique life and backstory. He further explained how the close-knit nature of a village community will impact NPC interactions with Ciri and other characters.
CD Projekt Red is also enhancing NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions, aiming for a more immersive experience than previous titles.
Although details are scarce, these improvements promise richer NPC interactions and a more believable world. For more information on The Witcher 4, check out our dedicated article!
