Author: Michael Jun 02,2025

Get ready for an epic upgrade in *Marvel Rivals* as Season 2.5 brings the highly anticipated arrival of Ultron and introduces a host of new features to the game. Fans can look forward to a Strategist who brings consistent healing to his allies, paired with unique aerial capabilities and powerful ranged attacks. Ultron’s inclusion opens up fresh opportunities for creative lineup strategies, making him a standout addition to the roster.

As part of this update, players will also encounter Ultron’s X-Tron skin, inspired by his takeover of Cerebro, and Groot’s Norse Mythology-themed skin, Yggroot. While NetEase hasn’t revealed pricing details yet, these skins are expected to launch alongside the Season 2.5 maintenance.

Season 2.5 Premieres on May 30

Season 2.5 kicks off on May 30, following a maintenance window lasting approximately 2-3 hours. The update begins at 2 AM PDT / 9 AM UTC, with players able to check their local times using the schedule below.

This update brings balance tweaks to multiple heroes, addressing the current "dive meta." Players will notice changes like reduced health for Captain America, increased damage for Doctor Strange, and extended range for Emma Frost. These adjustments aim to counter aggressive playstyles while encouraging a more balanced battlefield.

Additionally, the new Arrako map debuts, set in the aftermath of Ultron’s assault on Krakoa. Heroes will unite with Krakoa to reclaim Arrako, adding a compelling narrative layer to the gameplay.

Team-Up Adjustments, New Experimental Mode, and More

Season 2.5 introduces six new Team-Ups, including fan-favorite pairings like Rocket Network (Rocket Raccoon & Peni Parker), Stark Protocol (Iron Man & Ultron), and the long-awaited return of Jeff-Nado (Jeff & Storm). Over half of the existing Team-Up abilities have been revamped, and developers are eager to hear feedback from the community to further refine these mechanics.

A new experimental mode called "Ultron’s Battle Matrix Protocol" launches on June 6. This mode lets players craft custom builds for their heroes and engage in strategic battles against others, reminiscent of auto-chess games like Teamfight Tactics. According to Creative Director Guangguang, this mode offers streamlined, numerical-based gameplay designed for tactical solo play.

Looking ahead, Season 3 and beyond will see shorter seasons lasting two months instead of three, with new heroes released monthly. This shift aims to keep the game fresh and engaging while expanding its ever-growing roster.
