Tides of Annihilation, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend, casts players as Gwendolyn, a young woman battling alongside spectral knights to rescue her family and mend a fractured world.
The game unfolds in a ravaged, modern-day London, overrun by a mysterious otherworldly force. Gwendolyn and her team confront relentless enemy hordes in the besieged city streets. Massive, roaming knights form the game's primary antagonists, requiring players to scale and engage in thrilling, close-quarters combat.
While boasting impressive visuals, Tides of Annihilation currently lacks a compelling narrative hook. Recent soulslike games have successfully reimagined classic tales—the Western unfamiliarity with "Journey to the West" and the surprising twist on Pinocchio in Lies of P are prime examples. However, the Arthurian narrative feels overused and familiar. Despite its aesthetic appeal, Tides of Annihilation unfortunately fails to offer a truly unique selling point.
