Squad Busters 2.0 Lands on Android Before First Anniversary

Squad Busters is celebrating its first anniversary with the launch of its monumental update 2.0 on May 13th. Since its debut in 2024, the game has struggled to capture the audience that Supercell had hoped for. But with this major overhaul, could things finally take a turn for the better?

This Isn’t Just a Tweak or Two

Squad Busters 2.0 is more than just a simple update; it's essentially a reboot. The gameplay mechanics are undergoing a significant transformation, affecting everything from how battles are conducted to how victories are achieved.

One of the most pivotal changes is the introduction of Heroes. Players will now select a Hero to lead their squad into battle. These Heroes are familiar faces from the game's roster, and if your chosen Hero falls in combat, it's game over for you.

Combat mechanics are also being revamped. Gone are the days of stopping to fight; now, movement and attacks are seamlessly integrated, making for more dynamic, fast-paced, and intense matches.

The victory conditions have shifted as well. Instead of needing to eliminate every opponent on the board, players now only need to defeat the enemy Hero. This change has sparked some debate among the community, with some feeling it veers too close to a Brawl Stars-style game.

Squad Busters 2.0 Is Dumping a Lot of Old Features

To make way for the new, several existing features are being removed. Modes such as Doppelgangers, Double Trouble, Epic Overload, Loot Machines, and Hatchling Herder are being cut. Additionally, some skins and progression systems will no longer be available. Supercell plans to compensate players with Hero Points and other in-game items.

It's clear why Supercell is pushing these changes so aggressively. Squad Busters hasn't yet reached the heights of popularity enjoyed by Clash of Clans or Brawl Stars.

With the first anniversary approaching on May 29th, Supercell aims to reignite player interest with this major update. They're also rolling out daily piñata events to celebrate, which will offer opportunities to unlock a new Hero, Mortis.

You can download Squad Busters 2.0 from the Google Play Store and experience the new gameplay for yourself.
